I love still life. When I left illustration to paint again, it was with still life. I had to relearn all I could from my time studying at the American Academy in Chicago and my studio setting gave me that opportunity. Still life captures a moment, a subject, a feeling, a sense of light. It can be formal or relaxed, simple or complicated, and I love using it to explore beauty in unexpected places. I also like playing with light, and how light or dark can help describe something beautiful. In a way a still life is a portrait, except the subject stands still!
